Robert Pettyjohn
Policy and Governance Advisor | Environmental Consultant | Building Science Authority

Robert “Bob” Pettyjohn is a veteran leader in the mold, indoor air quality, and restoration industry, with decades of practical experience spanning cleaning and restoration, environmental contamination response, mold-related consulting, and professional training. He serves as a Policy and Governance Advisor within PEPN, contributing to the development of structured, standards-driven frameworks that advance consistency and accountability across the environmental industry.

Bob is associated with Pettyjohn’s Cleaning & Restoration in North Carolina, a long-established company serving the Triangle region, as well as Pettyjohn’s Indoor Environmental. His work also includes senior training roles with NORMI Pro, where he has helped educate and guide professionals in mold assessment, remediation practices, and indoor environmental quality.

He is especially recognized for his leadership within the IICRC, one of the most influential standards and credentialing organizations in the restoration industry. Bob was elected to the IICRC Board of Directors in 2016, served as a board member from 2017 to 2018, and later held the role of Secretary of the IICRC Board and Executive Committee, including during the 2021–2022 term. These positions placed him directly within the governance structure responsible for shaping widely adopted industry standards in water damage restoration and mold remediation.

With a unique combination of field experience, training leadership, and governance-level involvement, Bob brings a comprehensive perspective to environmental standards and professional practice. His role within PEPN supports the evolution of policy frameworks that align technical execution with measurable performance and long-term industry advancement.

Ken Siders

Policy and Governance Advisor | Environmental Consultant | Building Science Authority

Ken Siders is a nationally recognized authority in environmental contamination, building science, and complex remediation strategy, with more than two decades of field and advisory experience across the restoration and indoor environmental industries. He serves as a Policy and Governance Advisor within PEPN, contributing to the advancement of standards, protocols, and governance frameworks aligned with measurable health outcomes.

Throughout his career, Ken has operated at the intersection of technical execution and high-level advisory, guiding projects involving complex contamination events, remediation failures, litigation support, and large-scale environmental risk. His background includes senior leadership roles at ETA Environmental and HouseCheck Environmental Consultants, along with extensive independent consulting across residential, commercial, and institutional environments.

He is widely regarded for his ability to identify underlying environmental failure mechanisms—particularly in cases where conventional methodologies have proven insufficient. His expertise spans microbial contamination, structural moisture dynamics, post-remediation verification, and multi-factor environmental exposure scenarios.

Ken has played a significant role in large-scale disaster response, with direct involvement in post-event environmental assessments following major hurricanes including Michael, Florence, Dorian, and Ida. His work reflects deep expertise in flood-related contamination, microbial amplification, and building system diagnostics under extreme conditions.

A recognized educator and industry contributor, Ken has trained restoration professionals in advanced moisture diagnostics, contamination assessment, and disaster recovery protocols. He has contributed to technical education through training programs, case studies, and industry platforms such as IAQ Radio.

His professional foundation includes extensive tenure with the IICRC, along with multiple advanced certifications across microbial remediation, hazardous materials, and environmental assessment disciplines. Patrick Berryessa
Technology Advisory Board | Chief Technology Officer, EMT

Patrick Berryessa serves on the PEPN Protocol, Policy, and Technical Advisory Board and is the Chief Technology Officer for Extreme Microbial Technologies (EMT), where he specializes in Energized Hydrogen Peroxide (eH₂O₂) air and surface purification technologies. Since 2019, he has led the development, validation, and real-world deployment of active microbial reduction systems across residential, commercial, and institutional environments, with a focus on the health impact behind environmental exposure.

With a professional foundation at Ecolab, Patrick developed deep expertise in infection control, food safety, and applied chemistry across healthcare, hospitality, and foodservice sectors. His work is grounded in real-world performance, emphasizing the direct relationship between environmental contamination and human health outcomes.

During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, Patrick worked alongside U.S. military and government entities to implement active purification strategies addressing bioaerosol contamination. Through this work, he identified critical gaps in existing standards—particularly the lack of integration between environmental control strategies and health-driven outcomes.

He later contributed to large-scale disaster response efforts with RAM Restoration USA, supporting major hurricane recovery projects and gaining extensive experience in water damage, microbial amplification, and full-scale environmental decontamination.

A former member of the United States Marine Corps FAST Company, Patrick brings a mission-focused, operational mindset to reducing environmental bioburden in support of both health and performance. His role within PEPN supports the advancement of exposure-informed standards that connect environmental conditions directly to human health outcomes.
